Meet the staff

We'd like you to meet the friendly staff of Wish Upon a Quilt.

Kris Harris is standing with her 9/11 remembrance quilt and a yo-yo purse.

I'm Kris Harris and I've worked at Wish Upon a Quilt for about a year now. It's really inspiring to be around so many beautiful fabrics and talented co-workers and customers! I've been sewing for as long as I can remember and made my first quilt 30 years ago in high school. Although I've made several more quilts since then, I think of myself as more of a fabric crafter. I really enjoy trying new techniques with fabric- you'll find me working on things like purses, totes, humbugs, fabric bowls, kimekome balls, fabric origami, wall hangings, table runners, yo-yos, etc. I guess I like the instant gratification of smaller projects! Come by and visit us at Wish!

Here I'm in front of the flag wall hanging I made in remembrance of 9/11 and holding a more recent project, a yo-yo purse.

    Dottie Biery

Hi, my name is Dottie Biery. I started my quilting hobby about 18 years ago in a little shop in upstate NY called “Grandmother’s Thimble.” A friend of mine had bought the shop and knew me from some years back when we taught together in a Christian school. She knew that I was good in sales and that I had made dolls and clothing over the years. She taught me everything that I needed to know about quilting in her “beginner class” and I took off from there. My passion for quilting is now being passed down to my daughter and granddaughter.

Prior to moving to NC about 12 years ago, I taught quilting classes at the quilt shop where I worked as well as at the local community college. Since moving to NC, I have enjoyed teaching new quilters in my scrapaholic, color, and beginning machine quilting classes.I am very blessed to be working at “Wish Upon a Quilt” with Cathy, the current shop owner, and the other wonderful and talented staff members. Come check out our classes and see the best kept secret in Raleigh (Wish Upon a Quilt)…it will not be a secret that much longer!

    Hollie and her pumpkin quilt.

Hi, I’m Hollie and I am new to the Wish Upon Quilt staff. However, I have been quilting for 11 years. There is so much to learn in quilting, I find each quilt to be its own journey. In recent years, my 2 children have kept me pretty busy, so I have tried to find smaller projects to accomplish. I finished this fall pumpkin appliqué in a short amount of time. This makes a great wall hanging for the autumn season. The pumpkin is sewn into the background fabric and the sunflower is appliquéd on top. I machined appliquéd around the sunflower and leaves. I also added some beads to the sunflower for sparkle. Sometimes it’s nice to have small projects in between the bigger ones so that you can finish quickly and enjoy your quilt almost immediately. Happy Quilting! Wendy Darby with another EQ6 designed quilt

Wendy Darby with another EQ6 designed quilt.

I'm Wendy Darby. I love making quilts, learning new techniques, and dreaming up new projects. I started quilt making about 11 years ago. I've tried to learn everything I can about machine and hand construction, quilt design with Electric Quilt 6, and machine and hand quilting. I'm very excited to be
working at Wish Upon A Quilt because the beautiful fabrics, fun patterns and books, and friendly people are very inspiring. I can't wait to see what gets sewn up!

    Cindy's Transitions quilt

Cindy Massey- I've been sewing for the better part of 50 years, ever since my grandma Beatsy showed me how to thread a needle, roll a knot at the end of the double thread, and take small running stitches to gather a skirt for my Betsy McCall doll. So far, the progression from sewing home decor and garments to making quilts has been quite the adventure. I just *love* everything about colors and fabric! No, I don't have an impressive "stash" just yet, but I'm getting there. Got two new quilts in the works, too...

My newest creation is on the left, made with the Transistions pattern from Cozy Quilt Shop using Hoffman's BaliPops.

We'll introduce the rest of the Wish Upon A Quilt staff shortly.

Kris, I love small projects too! In fact many of those listed like -kimekome balls and fabric origami are on the top of my list to try. What pattern did you use to make your yo-yo purse? Is it similiar to the one featured on the site (mentioned in More handmade ideas.
We definitely need to get together and talk projects. :)

Hi..I would like to duplicate Hollie's small Pumpkin and Sunflower quilt design. It is simplistic and pretty and I just love it. Is this her own design or is there a pattern I can purchase? Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
