My journey as an artist is full of twists & turns, and for that, I am grateful because it brought me here at Wish Upon A Quilt. My mother, Carol, was a commercial artist, and growing up I was surrounded by and in awe of her work. Naturally, I was want to be just like her but life had other plans. Getting married, having children, and moving 9 times - but art was always my hobby - wherever we were I always had a studio - be it the kitchen table, garage, or basement. As the kids got older I strived to create beautiful art to sell. I started dabbling in silk painting and wax batik creating beautiful hand-painted silk scarves. This was a total love affair that blossomed into designing fabric, quilts & embroidery patterns.
You may ask why a lot of my designs have a coastal feel to them - this is because I grew up spending all my summers on a tiny island off the coast of Maine. My first foray into selling my art was when I was a little girl selling driftwood & sea glass pieces on a roadside stand on my grandmother’s lawn.
I feel very blessed to be able to share my work with so many and I’m grateful that you stopped by to view my work.
Blessings,
Laurie
